Taylor stood in the shower, the steaming water washing away the evidence of her fallen tears.

She’d tried to hold herself together. To keep the overwhelming emotions from breaking free. And she had…for a little while, at least.

She’d held back the tears in the lobby while they’d waited for the police to arrive. And again while they’d gone back up to her apartment so they could take pictures, dust for prints, and take their statements. And later, during the car ride from her place to Greyson’s hotel, Taylor had valiantly kept the storm brewing inside her at bay.

Throughout the hour-long conversation with his team about what had happened, as they’d each shared their theories on the best way to go about finding the person responsible, and even while the team debated about what their next step should be…

Through it all, she’d refused to allow a single tear to fall.

But after, when they’d said goodnight to Asher, Kellan, and Rhys, and she’d stepped into the solace of Greyson’s bathroom…that’s when the floodgates had opened. The control she’d so desperately tried to hold onto had vanished in the blink of an eye.

Just like her brother.

Just like her parents.

Just like nearly every possession she owned.

So here she was, standing in a hotel shower and praying that the sound of rushing water hid her quiet, gut-wrenching sobs from the rest of the world.

I’ve lost everything.

Taylor wasn’t a materialistic person. Not even a little bit. But knowing someone had gone through her things…had touched them and then destroyed them…

It was a violation unlike any she’d ever experienced.

Knowing she couldn’t stay hidden in here forever—despite her desire to do so—Taylor regained her composure and finished washing her body and hair. Once she was dried off, she got re-dressed in the clothes she’d had on before because…well…they were the only clothes she had left.

It could’ve been worse, Tay. It could’ve been so much worse.

Buttoning her jeans, she did a quick scan of the small sink for a brush or comb. Surely someone with hair like his would have one…

She spotted a black leather toiletry bag sitting to the side. Taylor hesitated, feeling as though she was violating his privacy, she undid the zipper and peeked inside.

There was a toothbrush and toothpaste, deodorant and a small bottle of cologne, a brush and…a white prescription bottle.

Don’t do it. It’s not your business. Do not look at that—

Taylor picked up the bottle and read the label. “Zolpedem,” she whispered the medication’s name to herself. Not recognizing the name, she turned the bottle to the side to read the printed information.

Used to treat insomnia.

She glanced at the closed door to her left and thought about the man on the other side. Her heart ached knowing someone as big and strong as Greyson Frost could ever need a medication like the one in her hand.

Sure, he’d looked tired and a bit run-down this morning, but after everything they’d been dealing with, she hadn’t given it much thought. Now, however, Taylor couldn’t help but wonder if maybe he hadn’t slept for a completely different reason.
